| CHF seeks
to arrange for American teachers to teach abroad in countries not sponsored by
the Fulbright Program. We are working informally to try to match U.S.
teachers who contact us with teachers in other countries, who may be
interested in setting up an exchange. Most of the exchanges CHF
has facilitated in recent years has taken place in English-speaking
countries. Direct exchanges take much time and patience to arrange.
In the Southern hemisphere, for instance, the timing of the school year
begins in January in most countries.
Currently, a plan is underway to set up an exchange program for American
teachers of English with Mandarin teachers in Shanghai.
Funding
is needed to underwrite these direct teacher exchanges and to subsidize cost
of living while teachers are overseas since salaries in some countries are
vastly lower than teacher salaries in the U.S. Since we do not have a
staff in place to conduct this program, we are actively seeking funding to
support it, as many American teachers are interested in exploring
opportunities to work in other countries and experience different methods of
teaching and interacting with their peers, students, parents, and school
administration.
If you would
like to volunteer some time to work on this effort, please send an email to:

communication is done by email or phone to other states and other countries;
therefore, it is not necessary to live in the New York City area to work on
this project.
